A symbol worn for centuries

Amulets have been worn for as long as there have been people. They have been found in Egyptian tombs; in Anatolia they are still hung above a newborn's cradle, in Greece they dangle from rear-view mirrors, and in Morocco they are tied around a child's wrist before a journey. Different peoples and different faiths, but the same custom — and that custom is what makes this motif what it is.

The eye (nazar) — a blue glass bead with concentric circles. Similar objects have been found in Mesopotamia and ancient Egypt, and the best-known examples are Turkish and Greek glass beads. In folk tradition it was worn as an answer to the "evil eye", the belief that an envious look could do harm.

The hamsa — an open palm with five fingers, also known as the Hand of Fatima or the Hand of Miriam. It is shared by North African, Middle Eastern and Mediterranean traditions; it was hung above front doors and worn as jewellery, often with an eye in the centre of the palm, as on this bracelet.

The colours are not accidental in that tradition. Blue is most often linked to the nazar, because glass in that shade was the first to be available. Red appears in Balkan customs as the red thread tied around a child's wrist. Black is a more recent, understated version with no particular place in tradition — it is chosen for its looks.

That is also why an amulet is most often given as a gift: to a mother, a sister, a friend, a child leaving home. Not because anything is expected of the object, but because it comes with a story and a kind wish — and that is the sort of present people remember. A card describing the symbol is included in the packaging, so you do not have to tell the story yourself.

To be perfectly clear. Everything written above describes cultural heritage; it is not a promise. We sell this bracelet as decorative jewellery and we do not claim — nor do we allow our advertising to claim — that the symbol on it protects, heals, attracts or changes anything. No such effect has been demonstrated. The bracelet is not a medical device and it is not a substitute for a doctor, for medicine or for any form of professional help, whether medical, psychological or financial. If you have a health problem, please see a doctor.

What you get

  • The bracelet in the colour you choose — glass beads with the evil eye motif, 8 mm across, 20–22 beads depending on the size.
  • A hamsa charm in an antique silver finish alloy, 25 mm tall; the spacer beads are the same alloy.
  • An elastic cord, 18–19 cm at rest — it fits wrists of roughly 15 to 19 cm and slips over the hand, with no clasp.
  • A gift pouch with a small cardboard box and a card describing the symbol.
  • An invoice with VAT shown, sent by email as soon as the payment goes through.

Weight about 18 g. There is nothing else in the parcel — no "activation" instructions, no rituals and no services to be charged for later.

The beads are strung by hand, so the shade and the position of the eye vary from piece to piece and the size may differ by up to 1 cm; that is the nature of the material, not a fault. This product is not a toy and contains small parts — keep it out of reach of children under three. If you have a known metal allergy, please check the materials before ordering.

Frequently asked questions

How much is it and when does it arrive?

The bracelet is €25.00 including VAT, shipping is €5.00 per order and free over €50.00. We process orders within 1–2 business days and delivery takes 5–10 days from our warehouse in the European Union. We email you a tracking number as soon as the parcel is on its way.

Does it fit everyone?

The cord is elastic and measures 18–19 cm at rest, so it fits wrists of roughly 15 to 19 cm. If it does not fit, you have 30 days to ask for a refund.

How do I pay?

By card (Visa, Mastercard, Maestro), with Google Pay or Apple Pay — all through Stripe — or with PayPal. You choose the payment method in step three of the checkout and the price is the same either way. We never see or store your card details or your PayPal password. More on the payment security page.

Does the amulet actually work?

We sell the bracelet as decorative jewellery and we do not claim that it has any effect on health, luck, money or relationships — no such effect has been demonstrated and we do not promise one. The symbolism of the eye and the hamsa belongs to folk tradition and that is exactly how we describe it. What we do guarantee is the workmanship, the materials, the size, the delivery time and the price.

Is this a subscription?

No. Every order is a one-off purchase. We do not store card details, there is no automatic renewal and there is no cancellation fee.

Can I return the bracelet?

Yes. By law you have 14 days from delivery, and on top of that we give you a 30-day money-back guarantee — one email is enough. The procedure is set out in our returns and complaints policy.
